George Fredrich Osterloh

George Osterloh of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Great Lake Rehab Center. He was 94 years old. George Osterloh was born on October 10, 1927, in Ocholt, Germany to the late George and Wilhemina Osterloh. He met the love of his life, Hedwig “Heidi” Payk while attending a dance in Westerstede, Germany. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on August 5, 1950; she preceded him in death on August 3, 2021. In April 1954, George and Heidi immigrated to the United States. He was employed at Arrow Paper and later with General Motors Grey Iron and Nodular Iron as a millwright and dedicated many years of loyal service. He was a faithful longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church. George was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and worked in his garden until he was 90 years old. He loved to play his squeeze box, traveling to Germany to visit family, and vacationing in Florida. Above all, he treasured and cherished the time he spent with his wife, children grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. George was an amazing storyteller and will forever be remembered for living a truly remarkable life.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Covenant VNA Hospice, Covenant Hospital, and Great Lakes Rehab Center for all the love and care they provided to George and the family.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter: Rainer Osterloh of Wentzville, MO; Hilke (James) Stone of Saginaw; George (Joy) Osterloh of Traverse City; Peter (Kim) Osterloh of Wheeler; three granddaughters: Karissa Stone (Matt) Markham of Macomb; Stacey L. Stone Todd of Saginaw; Christina (Rick) Duree of MO; three great-grandchildren: Parker, Olivia, and Gibson Markham; two sisters-in-law: Trudy Payk of Saginaw; Carol Payk of Rapid City. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews living in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter-in-law, Maryanne Osterloh; grandson-in-law, Terry Todd; brothers: Willy, Herbert, and Hans Osterloh; sister, Hilda May.
