Evalyn Jean Capen Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2019 at her home, with her family at her side; at the age of 86 years. The daughter of the late George C. and Helen D. (Seiferline) Diener, was born on May 14, 1933 in Owosso, Michigan. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School with the class of 1951. Evalyn married Jack W. Capen on September 14, 1951 in Angola, Indiana; he preceded her in death on November 18, 2010. She proudly worked at A & W on State Street, was a seamstress and teacher for many years at Pins and Needles. Evalyn spent most of her time at home taking care of her loving family. She enjoyed snowmobiling, crocheting, knitting afghans, baby afghans and gloves for her family. Evalyn was very strong as there was nothing she could not do, including building a cottage up north with her husband. Above all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and dog, Muffin.

Surviving are one daughter, one son and his spouse, Shelley Capen, Jeffrey and Beth Capen; two grandchildren, Joshua and Adam Capen; and one great-granddaughter, Lexie Capen. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her husband and her parents, Evalyn is preceded in death by two sons, Robert "Bobby" Capen in 1964, Baby Boy Capen in 1966; one grandson, Jared Capen; two brothers and one sister, Gary Diener, Wayne Westphal and Lorraine Nuernberg.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers from Southern Care Hospice, especially Stacy Smith, for their compassionate care of Evalyn.

Honoring Evalyns wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 12:00 (noon) on Friday, December 13, 2019 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Chaplain Lon Cook will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral chapel.
