Eileen Marie Bavin

Eileen Marie Bavin passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020 after a brief illness at 95 years old. Eileen was born in 1925 in Trout Creek Michigan, the first of four daughters. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Anselm and Ida Oja; her husband of 56 years Francis; one son Michael and one sister, Elvie. She is survived by a son John (Penny) Bavin of Jackson; daughter Janet (Michael) Tyra of Saginaw; sisters Norma Miller and Marianne Pietila; 5 grandchildren; Renee (Lucas) Ingle; Rebecca Troup; Elizabeth (Steve) Nazaruk; Kathryn (Garrett) Richards; Amy (Rick) Pintus; and 10 Great Grandchildren.

Eileen was proud of her Finnish heritage and her beloved UP. She was an excellent typist and worked as a medical transcriptionist in several hospitals. She was also an excellent homemaker, cook and baker. She reluctantly gave up her car at age 90, but lived alone in her own home until her death, where she prepared all her own meals and continued her lifelong love of baking. She enjoyed her weekly tradition of baking popovers for her and her daughter Jan. Eileen loved to sew and crochet. She would crochet an afghan in just a few days. The family all have Grandma’s Afghans on their beds and couches. Eileen and Frank loved camping when the children were young and continued camping and fishing until Frank’s death in 2002.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension St Mary’s Hospital and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care she received, and a special thank you to Nurse Carla.

Private family funeral service has taken place. Rev. Paul Hinz officiated with interment at Midland Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel.
