Duane Arthur Pretzer Sr.

Duane A. Pretzer, Sr. Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved father and grandfather passed away on April 10, 2017, at the age of 70 years. Duane was born July 28, 1946, in Saginaw to the late Max and Eleanor (Shay) Pretzer. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1964. He then attended Delta Community College until he was compelled to join the Marine Corps. He served in the Marines during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star with valor, and Silver Star. He retired from General Motors after 38 years of service. He was a past elder for Bethlehem Lutheran Church, past Commander of VFW post #1859, and member of the Purple Heart Association. He loved cooking and leading BBQ's with family and friends. He also enjoyed woodworking, jazz music, birdwatching, and maintaining his aquarium fish. He loved Old English Sheep Dogs; and owned many throughout his lifetime. He was a former season ticket holder for the Detroit Lions and he also avidly watched the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Pistons, and M.S.U. football. He will be missed by his children, Duane (Jana) Pretzer, Jr. and Ashley (Thomas) Wenzel; grandchildren, Duane Pretzer III, Breanna, Drew, Luke, and Everett.; mother of his children and former wife of 43 years, Susan (McConkey) Pretzer; sister-in-law, Yvonne Pretzer; several nieces and nephews; beloved advisors/supporters that became genuine family, Edward and Lois Peitsch and their family. He was predeceased by his siblings, Dale Pretzer, Carroll (Charles) Spiegelhalter, and Clea (Dennis) Lupien. The family would like to thank: Dr. Lekha Richardson and her staff, St. Mary's Main 5th floor south, staff of Cartwright Care Center, staff of Wellspring Lutheran VNA for all the wonderful care they provided to Duane. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd. with Rev. Michael Korte officiating. Military honors will be rendered after the service at VFW Post 1859 at 3169 Carrollton Rd. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
