Donald Oliver Thomas

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away unexpectedly on January 23, 2017, at the age of 85 years. Don was born December 30, 1931, in Saginaw to the late Robert and Leona (Dietzel) Thomas. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned a good conduct medal. Don married Jo Ann Ratliff on April 9, 1957; she survives him. He retired from Tiny Tot Diaper Service where he had worked for over 30 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served as a High Priest. He enjoyed golfing, camping, travel, doing his family genealogy, and watching sports, especially the Detroit Red Wings and University of Michigan football. He loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by his wife Jo Ann; his children, Donald Oliver (Robin) Thomas II, Rebecca Lynne (Serdar) Olgac, Matthew Scott (Rebecca) Thomas, JoBeth (Vincent) Vasquez, Jennifer Ann (Matthew) Tarrant; grandchildren, Adam, Nicole (Tyler), Heather (Bernard), Nathaniel (Christina), Jengiz, Engin, Amy, Matthew II, Gabriel, John (Natalie), Joshua (Karen), Ashley (Craig), Cody, Quinten, and London; great-grandchildren, Avery, Adison, Sydney, Grace, Jack, Benjammin, Adeline, Kylie; his siblings: Dean (Jynell) Thomas, Larry (Emily) Thomas, his siblings-in-law: Herbert Ratliff, Linda Strye, Judith (Larry) Hill, Beverly Merrithew, and Chase Moore and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Gene, Darrell, and Dale Thomas; sister-in-law, Pamela Moore; and brother-in-law, Robert Merrithew. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1415 N. Center Road with military burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on Monday, January 30, 2017at 10:00 a.m.. Friends may visit with the family at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again at church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family
