Dale was born an only child to the late Harvey L. Harris and Calla Mae (Williams) Harris on September 17, 1930 in Johnston City, Illinois. Dale graduated from Johnston City High School class of 1948. He went on to earn is Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts from Southern Illinois University and began teaching high school wood shop and drafting. He left teaching to work for the State of Iowa overseeing the Secondary Education Building Trades Program. Dale eventually went back to hands on carpentry that he loved, working as a civil servant at Camp Pendleton in California retiring in 1994. Dale served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after four years of service. Dale was an avid reader of all non-fiction subjects. Being raised in a Christian (Baptist) home Dale knew his Bible well and read it daily. Dale leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Patricia (Landeryou) Harris, a step-son and care giver, David Lee of the home, a step-daughter Kristen (Nick) Somers of Saginaw, grand-daughter Briana Somers of Saginaw, grandson Andrew Somers of Saginaw and great-grandson Jayden Somers of Saginaw. Dale will be missed by many loving family members and had a special bond with his sister-in-law, Hazel Emeott of Saginaw. His beloved Boston Terrier, Sadie Belle misses him dearly. Dale also leaves his former wife, Mary N. Harris of Iowa and an estranged daughter, Regina (Bob) Harris-Hawbaker of Minnesota. Dale has donated his body to Michigan State University Division of Human Anatomy for training of medical students. Therefore there will be a private memorial for the family at a later date.
