He was born in Laredo, Texas on January 11, 1928 to the late Arturo and Teresa (Garcia) Valls. He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Bertha (Ayala) Valls and 4 loving children, Rachel (Rick) Andersen, Omaha, NE; Art (Tammy ) Valls III, Saginaw, MI; Denise Chavez, Trophy Club, TX; Yvette(Shannon) Blanton, Hawkinsville, GA; Arturo adored and cherished his 11 grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren; his brothers, Gilberto Valls, Laredo, TX and Pedro (Janie) Valls, Omaha, NE; his sister, Adela Gonzales, Laredo, TX . whom he called weekly; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa (Valls) Shields; 5 sisters, Juanita Castillo, Zulema Miranda, Emma Martinez, Manuelita Rodriguez and Teresa Chamberlain and a brother, Eduardo Valls.
Arturo was a longtime member and usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He started working at a young age and was sometimes holding three jobs simultaneously before retiring from General Motors, Grey Iron Foundry after 34 years of service. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, playing cards and tiles, making tamales and eating in general. He also loved playing baseball and watching his Detroit Tigers, bowling, shooting pool, casino trips, Wii games, iPAD casino games, Facebook and Facetime with family, Checkers, listening to his Tejano Music and playing the accordion accompanied by son Art on the guitar. With his heart of gold and gift of bringing laughter, you could always count on him greeting you with a friendly smile and a big bear hug.
