Obituary

Richard “Dick” L. Ruyts
Of Saginaw, MI

Passed away at the age of 86 at his home on May 29, 2019 surrounded by his family. Dick was born on April 7, 1933 to the late Lawrence and Crystal (Kuhn) Ruyts in Indiantown, MI. He graduated in 1951 from St. Joseph’s High School in Saginaw. In 1952 he joined the Navy and served during the Korean War. After returning from the service, he began working at the Second National Bank where he met and married Ruth M. Grover on June 2, 1956. He went on to work at Central Foundry Malleable Iron Plant and retired as an Industrial Engineer with 30 years service. Retirement was not for him so he went on to work part-time at the Clark Hardware where he stayed for over 20 years until he was 81 years old. He was a loyal, witty and very caring person. Dick had been a bowler, golfer and boater. He enjoyed anything involving horses, the Detroit Tigers, and both U of M and MSU football. He was a member of St. John Vianney Church, KWVA #251, and the American Legion #439.

Besides his wife, Ruth, of 63 years, he leaves his daughter, Debra (Matt) Murphy and their children, Nicholas, Kathleen and Michael; his son, James and his son, Evan; his brother, Arthur (Ginger); four nephews and other relatives and friends, including his Clark Hardware Family and his Church Family. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Robert (Virginia), and his in-laws, Ariel and Marvin Gray.

A funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Rev. Fr. Jim Carlson will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 2-8 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. as well as at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. John Vianney, City Rescue Mission, or A&D Hospice. The family would also like to say a special “Thank You” to the wonderful caring people at the A&D Hospice.
