Stark, Hilda Clara Violet (Kreger)
Hemlock, Michigan
Caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Age 91 years.
She was born on April 17, 1927, in Hemlock, Michigan, to the late Edward and Lena (Bunterbart) Kreger. Hilda lived in the Hemlock area her entire life, including in her centennial home that has been in her maternal family since 1864. She attended Bird School, St. Peter’s Lutheran School, and earned her high school diploma later in life. She also attended Delta College. She married her adoring and loving husband, Dennis “Denny” Stark, on May 10, 1947, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hemlock. Hilda and Denny were blessed with more than 70 years of marriage. Through the years, Hilda worked for Sebald’s Bakery, Gridley’s Music, and Billmeier’s Jewelry. There was always room in her home and in her heart for the many companion pets she had throughout her life. As a Friend of the Rauchholz Memorial Library in Hemlock, Hilda loved reading and books, was a great storyteller and a mindful listener. She was an advocate for education, heritage, and culture, especially appreciating classical music and the arts. In her lifetime, she loved all things beautiful, costume jewelry, flowers, celebrations, and time with her treasured family and friends. Together with her husband, Hilda enjoyed square dancing, attending auctions, and traveling across the country. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hemlock, where she was confirmed and married. She transferred to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and later moved back to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she was an active member, and was passionate about her faith in the Lord.
As a kind and supportive person, she will missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her three children, Larry (Mary Jo) Stark, Barbara (Don) Marcy, and David (Michelle) Stark; her grandchildren, Scott Stark, Aimee Farlow, Aaron Stark Sr., Sarah Jo (Jacob) Rowley, Larry “Dennis” Stark, and Kevin (Megan) Stark, Joshua Roy and Courtney Gustin; several great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Doris Stark, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband just weeks prior, her mother and father, her infant sister, Dora Kreger, her dear sister, Mildred Winebar, with whom she was very close, and her brother-in-law, Wilbur Winebar, and three other brothers-in-law, Russell, Ervin and Dale Stark.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Rd., Hemlock. Rev. Dr. William L. Morris will officiate with burial in Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Hilda’s family will receive friends at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N.
