Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 28, 2014, at the age of 81 years.
He was born October 4, 1933, in Twin Oaks, South Dakota, the son of the late Reka (Benting) and Otto Bohlen. He served with the US Air Force during the Korean War, and moved to Saginaw after being discharged. He retired from General Motors on January 1, 1999, after 42 years of service. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church of Midland, and had served as an usher and on its funeral committee. He was a member and Past President of the Hemlock Lions Club. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. He especially loved working in his yard and also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles.
He married Sallie A. George on May 23, 1964, celebrating 50 years of marriage this past May; she survives him. He also leaves two sons, one daughter, their spouses, and four grandchildren: Mark and Amy Henson-Bohlen, Sturgis, Michigan; Kevin and Erin Bohlen, and their children, Caitlin, Jon, Kyle, and Tyler, all of Jackson, Michigan; Marybeth and Eric Merkle, Lowell, Michigan; five brothers and six sisters-in-law, Earl and Helen Bohlen, Jim and Joan Bohlen, Reiner and Libby Bohlen, Dennis Bohlen, Dean and Bonnie Bohlen, Floydene Bohlen and Eleanor Bohlen; many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister, Art Bohlen, Milt Bohlen and Vera and her husband Merlin Tietjen. Don's family extends special thanks to Dr. Mulpuri, Dr. Larkin and Dr. Hughes, for their kindness and care.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1550 S. Poseyville Road, Midland. Rev.
