Obituary

Beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday April 7, 2019 in Los Angeles.
He was born near Liepaja, Latvia on December 27, 1925 to the late Lottie and Karlis Reinis. He proudly served his country in the Latvian Army during WWII, protecting Latvia from Russian invaders. He married Valija Hafners after the war in Germany, and they immigrated to the United States in 1950. He was employed as a Machine Operator with Saginaw Steering Gear/General Motors, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church/Oakley, the Latvian Club of Saginaw, and the Los Angeles Latvian Church of Southern California. He enjoyed music, politics, walking in the Hemlock Park, and spending winters in Marina Del Rey, CA.
Surviving are his daughters Ruth (Colin) and Liga, grandson Chris (Shari), and great granddaughters, Asher and Brynn. He was preceded in death by his wife,Valija, son, Aigars (aka Ike), granddaughter Lisa and her husband Jay, son-in-law, John, his Mom, Dad, and Step-Father, Ervin Wegner.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11am Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church/Oakley. Pastor Mielke will officiate and burial will follow the service in Marion Springs at the Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Christ Lutheran Church/Oakley, the Saginaw Latvian Church, or the Latvian Church of Southern California.
He quietly lived an amazing life! Shot twice in WWII, dedicated to good work at GM, loved to maintain the home and yard, our Dad, Grandpa, friend, neighbor, a true one of a kind! He will be forever missed!
